Kiehl's Skin Care Review

Sunday 20 July 2014

I struggle with very problematic skin. I easily break out and have sensitive skin. I get dry spots but also very oily sections on my face, which can be difficult to fix/deal with. Because of this I am a huge believer in good skin care.

I think it is worth giving a quick mention to the brand Cetaphil which I use almost daily. I love their gentle skin cleanser because it is extremely gentle, has no scent and never leaves my skin feeling tight. However, I do also like to give my face a really deep wash once a day, just to make sure I have no makeup still on and to try and keep my acne under control.

I have recently not been very happy with my skin care regime so I decided to try a new brand. So naturally I researched basically every brand out there. And the brand I decided to try was Kiehl's and boy am I happy I did!

Kiehl's are an American based brand and they mostly use natural ingredients. I went up to a counter and explained my skin type and the lovely staff helped me out with some samples. They gave me enough to last me around a month so that I could really try out the products to see the effect that they would have on my skin. It is so important to acknowledge that everybody has different skin types and that finding the right skin care regime can take time but it is so beneficial for you in the long run.

This moth I have been using the Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser, Calendula Herbal-Extract Toner and the Ultra Facial Cream.

I start by using the cleanser. This product is said to be a 'gentle liquid formula that cleanses without over-drying or stripping skin', and I have to agree. To use this I first splash some water on my face then work in the cleanser with my finger tips in an upward circular motion. Then I put some water on my fingers and work it deeper into my skin to really foam it up and try to dislodge any dirt. I love the foam this cleanser creates, it is really light and it feels great on the skin. To wash it off I use a warm face-washer/cloth then splash off any excess. I find my skin is slightly tight after I use this, but this is probably because I have sensitive skin. The result after using this is extremely clean skin! It is clear to see after using this that it cleanses really well, which is obviously what you want.

Next I apply the toner. I take a cotton pad and put a small amount of the toner on to it then apply it to my skin. I have never really used a toner in the past because I find my skin doesn't react well to them, I think probably they were just too strong for sensitive skin. But I really wanted to try and add this step into my daily routine. This toner is for normal-to-oily skin and works really well on me. Because it is alcohol free it is very gentle. It applies evenly over the skin and didn't irritate my skin at all.

Lastly I used the facial cream. This 'daily hydrator' is like a moisturiser however, it claims to last 24 hours and protect the skin from the weather. This product claims to have 'an ability to protect skin from cold temperatures' and I was attracted to this product because I get very dry skin in winter. The drop in temperature really affects my skin and I am left with hard to deal with dry patches. It is hard to say if it does truly last 24 hours because I wash my face morning and night but it definitely lasts all day which I think in itself is great. It has successfully fixed my dry skin, which makes me so happy. The first few times I used it my skin was slightly irritated and became red, but after using it for just under a month that has stopped and my skin is now extremely more hydrated and not just in patches but evenly over my face.

Overall, I love this regime and I think I will buy these products soon. They are gentle and have given me great results. I have noticed my acne is clearing up a lot and my skin is evenly hydrated, making it easier to apply makeup.

Have you guys tried Kiehl's product before and if so what do you think of them? Or do you have another brand you like to use?
I would love to know your thoughts before I go and purchase them :)
